On project releases and moving
Okay, I knew that releasing a new version of bashblogger the day before a move was a bad idea, but I didn't realize how bad of an idea it was. Somebody remind me of this past weekend should I ever decide to do such a stupid thing again.
Anyways, here's the current status...
0.3.6 had bugs. Quite a few bugs actually. In my haste to get a release out the door before the move, several things slipped through that should've been caught and a couple of things I intended to include weren't.
Fabien VALLON noticed that bashblogger was producing duplicate entries in the RSS feed when RSS_MAXENTRIES was set higher than the number of existing articles in the blog. He sent in a fix for that. He also noted that the RSS link in the footer had the wrong path. I made a change to the Main.tpl in the templates directory to fix that bug.
Kevin Foote, of the new Aspell patch fame, reworked the importRSS() function heavily and he might have another thing or two to tweak.
Douglas Hunley noticed that the bblog_setup script didn't display all available install paths and overwrote existing files in ROOTDIR. I fixed both of those (I hope). Doug also noticed that the promised "-r" flag wasn't included in 0.3.6. Again, I rushed to get the tarball up when I should've delayed it. I blame myself.
Several people also pointed out that bashblogger was complaining about Pages.lnk and Pages2.lnk. I added those to the installer, as well as, added a few checks to make sure they exist. 0.3.6.1 should address all of the problems we've uncovered with 0.3.6, so far.
As to my recent move. We're in the new place. We've mostly got everything moved in. Everything that's still at the old place consists of two or three bags of trash, some cleaning supplies, a lamp and a few other household miscellaneous items, my wife's bicycle, the patio chairs and a pile of things to be donated to Goodwill. I think one trip to Goodwill, and another trip should get everything moved completely. Everything we've already moved to the new house has been unpacked and put away. My wife has been a machine, which kind of segueways into the next little bit.
My loving wife took a little ambulance ride today after collapsing on the stairs at the new place with chest pains. She has been so focused on getting everything moved into place as quickly and efficiently as possible that she's only has six hours of sleep, combined, over the last three or four days. You have to admire the woman's work ethic but, I'm a little frightened at the fact that she would push herself past the point of exhaustion and right into a lung infection to do so.
She got to come home tonight with strict instructions to get plenty of rest and a healthy cocktail of drugs to get her lungs cleared up. I thought I was going to have to hog-tie her and put a blanket over her head to get her to go to sleep. She's very impressive once she gets focused on a goal. Think Monica from the sitcom Friends and you should have a good idea (assuming, of course, you get that pop-culture reference).
So, in summation, 0.3.6 was buggy, and the move is almost done.
I've gotta go get some sleep.
